Softball Earns Split Behind Great Outing from Akey

Game 1: Parkside 4, Maryville 1
Game 2: Maryville 7, Parkside 2
Senior pitcher Kiley Akey had her second straight strong outing on the mound, leading the Parkside softball team to a split at Maryville on Saturday afternoon. The Rangers took game one 4-1, but fell 7-2 in game two.

GAME 1 RECAP
Maryville took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning, but Parkside answered back in the top of the fourth inning thanks to a junior Dani Evans RBI single that scored Cassie Rutledge, who drew a walk to open the inning. The Rangers then made it a 3-1 ball game with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth inning off a Rutledge RBI single and a Saints' error. The final insurance run of the game came in the top of the seventh off a freshman Meagan Maza RBI double, that scored Rutledge.
Akey pitched the complete game, allowing 10 hits with just one run, one walk and two strikeouts. Rutledge went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and an RBI. Maza finished 2-for-4 with a double and freshman Tia Livernash went 2-for-3.

GAME 2 RECAP
The Saints jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first two innings, but Parkside added a pair of runs in the top of third thanks to a 2-run double by Rutledge, that scored redshirt-sophomore Taylor Delgado and freshman CaroleAnn Goglin. Unfortunately for Parkside, that was all the offense could push across, and Maryville was able to add four more runs in the final four innings.

Parkside scattered six hits in game two, with Rutledge hitting another double with two RBI. Evans also hit a double, while the other hits came from Delgado, junior Jadynn Powell, Goglin and junior Alex Wooten. Freshman Olivia Masnica was tagged with the loss, going 3.0 innings allowing four hits and three runs with two strikeouts. Senior Tijanne Ross pitched the final 3.0 innings allowing four hits and four runs.

WHAT'S NEXT
The Rangers will finish out the series against Maryville with a single game on Sunday at noon.
