3/23/2022 11:50:00 AM

KENOSHA, Wis. – Alyssa Nelson of Parkside Women's Basketball has been named WBCA Division II Coaches' All-America Honorable Mention, the WBCA announced Wednesday. Nelson had a stellar year for the Rangers, and the New Berlin, Wis. native continues to add to her impressive list of post-season accolades. Nelson is the fourth womens' basketball All-American in school history, but joins Jadee Rooney (2012) as the only NCAA Division II All-Americans.

Nelson was statistically the most efficient player in the GLIAC during the 2021-22 campaign, averaging over 50% from the field, 40% from three-point land, and over 90% at the free throw line. This combination of averages is incredibly rare at any level of basketball. Nelson has shined on both ends of the floor, and is near the top in both offensive and defensive categories. She led the GLIAC in points per game and three-point field goals made, while also being in the top ten in the conference in field goals made per game, free throws made per game, defensive rebounds, free throw percentage, three-point percentage, field goal percentage, steals, and total rebounds. She also found herself near the top of the nation in points per game, field goals per game, and free throw percentage, a category in which she has the highest percentage among players with 100+ attempts in the country.

Head coach Jen Conely was ecstatic to learn about Nelson's recognition.

"A huge congratulations to Alyssa!" said Conely. "It is an incredible honor to be named a WBCA All-American! What a phenomenal season for Lys- GLIAC Preseason Player of the Year, 4 Time GLIAC North Player of the Week, scored her 1000th point at the beginning of the season, set the Parkside WBB single season scoring record, was named GLIAC MVP, D2CCA All-Midwest First Team, and now officially an All-American! I know she's received a lot of accolades and rightfully so, but I just don't think that people truly understand how incredible her performance was this year. She was one of the most efficient scorers in ALL of NCAA college basketball, regardless of gender and division. The defensive coverage that she faced on a nightly basis was extremely difficult- to be able to perform at a consistent level is a tribute to all the hard work that she has put in and how elite of a player she truly is. She's also one of the most clutch players in Parkside history and has hit at least one game winning shot in each of the last three seasons, in addition to game tying and other buzzer beating shots. Alyssa got it done on the defensive end as well and was ranked in numerous defensive statistical categories in the GLIAC. We are so proud of Alyssa and love to see her hard work pay off and be recognized! She's been an absolute joy to coach for four years and I am looking forward to watching her #DefendTheDen again next year!"

Nelson helped lead the Rangers to a 15-14 record overall and 12-9 in conference play on the season.
