Big Second Half by No. 2 Michigan Tech Leads to Rangers' Loss in GLIAC Quarterfinals

#2 Michigan Tech 66, #7 Parkside 53
The No. 7 seeded Parkside men's basketball team held a 32-30 lead over the No. 2 seed Michigan Tech on Wednesday night in the GLIAC Quarterfinals, but the host Huskies used a big second half to pull away and end the Rangers' 2021-22 season.

Parkside will finish 2021-22 at 14-14 overall and 10-9 in the GLIAC while the Huskies moved on to the GLIAC Semifinals.

HOW IT HAPPENED
It looked as though Michigan Tech had a chance to put the game away early, as MTU went up 15-4 in the early minutes. The Rangers battled back, keeping it close the rest of the way and ending the first half on an 8-0 run to take a 32-30 lead into the break.

In the second half, both teams started out slow, with both teams connecting on just one field goal before the first media timeout. The Huskies took a 41-40 lead with a triple and that propelled a 10-0 run by the Huskies that the Rangers could never fully recover from. Parkside ended the run with a 3-pointer of their own, but MTU scored seven straight after that to put the just about out of reach. MTU outscored the Rangers 36-21 in the second half.

STATWORTHY
Redshirt-freshman Jamir Simpson led the way with 17 points for Parkside while going 7-for-9 from the floor. Freshman Rasheed Bello had 13 points while senior Ramar Evans had five points and a team-high eight rebounds.

The Huskies outshot the Rangers 48.2% to 34.5% and hit five more 3-pointers in the ball game. Tech went +5 in rebounding, but Parkside won the turnover battle 8-to-12.
