Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Nelson Goes for 32 as Rangers Defeat Davenport 67-66

Parkside 67. Davenport 66

The Parkside women's basketball team wrapped up their weekend road trip in Grand Rapids, Mich. with a game against the Davenport Panthers. The Rangers looked to earn their first series sweep of the year, as they defeated the Panthers on Dec. 9 at home. The Panthers put up a strong fight and almost won the game, but senior Alyssa Nelson put the team on her back and led the Rangers to a win at the buzzer.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Rangers found themselves down by a basket at the end of the first quarter, trailing 22-20. The second quarter was equally matched, as the two teams went into the half tied at 42.  The Rangers defense came alive in the third quarter, limiting the Panthers to just nine points. The Panthers bounced back in the fourth quarter. The Panthers took the lead with 3:29 left to play, and it looked like an upset was imminent for the Rangers. With 2.1 seconds left, Courtney Schoenbeck inbounds the ball to Nelson. Nelson dribbled once, spun around her defender and hit the game winning layup at the buzzer to seal the win for Parkside.

HEAR FROM COACH JEN CONELY

"Tough road win at Davenport. It was a tale of two halves- first half, they were very physical and I didn't think we were, especially defensively. Second half, we were but the ball was getting stuck. Fortunately, we got a big stop and score in the end. Great execution by our team and a great finish by Lys to win the game. It will be nice to be back home this week."

A LOOK AT THE SCOREBOOK

Nelson dominated with 32 points, going 11-18 from the field. Sheridan Flauger ended the day with 11 points, shooting 5-8 in the game. Toni Grace led the way for the Panthers with 20 points.
