Baker Scores as Women's Soccer Drops Home Game to Northwood

Northwood 3, Parkside 1
On a beautiful Sunday afternoon at Wood Road Field, the Parkside women's soccer team fell 3-1 to a strong Northwood squad, who is receiving votes in the latest United Soccer Coaches Top-25 poll.

The Rangers fall to 2-5 overall and 0-3 in the GLIAC after facing the three toughest teams in the conference the last three games in No. 16 Ferris State, No. 2 Grand Valley State and today with the Timberwolves.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After a scoreless first half where Northwood outshot Parkside 9-4, the Timberwolves got on the scoreboard less than 1-minute into the second half thanks to a free kick in the box. In the 64th minute, sophomore Alexis Baker scored her team-leading third goal of the season to tie it up at 1-1; the goal came on an assist by freshman Ally Francisco, her first of the season.

Northwood broke the 1-1 tie in the 77th minute and made it a 3-1 advantage just 3-minutes later.

STATWORTHY
Redshirt-junior Myah Strokosch led the Rangers with three shots while Baker had two shots, both of which came on goal. Francisco and freshman Laura Sanchez each added a shot as well. Sophomore Izzy Guyer played all 90:00 in goal for Parkside, recording nine saves.

WHAT'S NEXT
Parkside will have another weekend with a home game and away game, beginning with Saginaw Valley State on Friday, Oct. 1 at noon at home. They'll head to Davenport on Sunday, Oct. 3.
