The Parkside volleyball team opened up its 2021 campaign at the Keweenaw Classic in Houghton, Mich., Thursday night. The Rangers fell at the hands of No. 16 St. Cloud State 3-0 to open the weekend however.Â

HOW IT HAPPENED
ÂÂIn the first set, the Huskies jumped out to an early lead and kept the Rangers away, using a 5-0 run to take a 19-10 advantage late in the set. In the second set, Parkside owned a 9-8 lead before SCSU rallied off an 8-0 run and never trailed again. They also used another 8-0 run to end the match. In the third and final set, SCSU opened with a 6-0 lead and the Rangers couldn't find their way back in it.

STATWORTHY
The Huskies had a huge advantage in blocks (13-1) and hitting percentage (.432 to .078) in the match. Senior
Jazmine Neal led the Rangers with nine kills while sophomore
Jessica Pappas had six and senior
Rachel Hedman had five. Redshirt-senior
Ellie Adams led with 13 assists and Hedman had a team-high nine digs.

WHAT'S NEXT
Parkside picks up the action once again on Friday, battling No. 7 Minnesota-Duluth at 11 a.m. and Minnesota State at 4 p.m. They'll finish out the weekend with an 11 a.m. matchup against No. 2 Concordia-St. Paul on Saturday.
