After a 3-0 setback to Quincy to open the day, the Parkside volleyball team earned a 3-1 win over Minnesota State to end the 2021 Hampton Inn Invitational.

The Rangers finished 2-2 over the weekend in the newly renovated De Simone Gymnasium, bringing their season record to 3-5.

It was a rough start to the day for the Rangers, who fell 3-0 to Quincy in the second match of the day in the tournament. The Rangers had it tied up 17-17 in the second set, but the Hawks went on to score eight of the final nine points to go up 2-0. Parkside hung around in the third set, but couldn't get the scoring run they needed to take over the lead, and ended up dropping the third as well.

Quincy hit .344 while the Rangers hit .148. Junior
Jazmine Neal had a team-high 10 kills while redshirt-senior Elie Adams had 19 assists and senior
Rachel Hedman had 13 digs.

Match 2 Recap
Parkside jumped out to huge advantage in set one against the Mavericks, going up 10-3 behind the strong crowd and cruising to the 25-14 victory. Set two was close in the beginning, tied at 9-9, but Parkside grew a six-point lead later on and took the second set home, 25-21. The Mavericks bounced back in the third, jumping out to the early advantage and holding on throughout.

Set four saw Parkside climb back from an early 11-8 deficit and turn it into a 17-13 lead. The Mavericks made it close in the end, but a kill in the middle by junior
Lexi Packard ended it with the Rangers win.

STATWORTHY
Sophomore
Jessica Pappas continues to shine for Parkside, as she added a game-high 15 kills in the second set along with five aces, bringing her season total to 24. Neal had 13 kills and junior
Reese Rossnagel added 10. Adams had a team-high 26 assists and four Rangers finished with double-digit digs.

WHAT'S NEXT
The Rangers will hit the road for a quick Tuesday night match at Upper Iowa on Tuesday, Sept. 14 before returning home to face Purdue Northwest on Saturday, Sept. 18 at 2 p.m. in De Simone Gymnasium.
