Ashland 15, Parkside 7
It was the final GLIAC showdown between the Parkside baseball team and the Ashland University Eagles, and the Eagles completed the weekend sweep.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
Junior
Matt Helwig started on the mound for the Rangers, but couldn't keep down the hot Ashland offense. The Eagles scored three in the first, one in the second, and two in the third and took a 6-2 lead after three innings. Parkside would score five innings in the bottom of the sixth, but not before Ashland put up three more in the top of the fifth, and six in the top of the sixth.
Â
In the bottom of the sixth, three of the Parkside runs came from a three-run home run from redshirt-senior
Nicholas Eisenmenger, his second of the day. The Rangers scored two more on another homer, this time from redshirt-freshman
Caleb Badgley. That put the game to 13-7 Ashland, and that lead held until the top of the ninth. In that ninth, the visitors added two more en route to a 15-7 win.
Â
STATWORTHY
Eisenmenger led the team offensively, homering twice and doubling, good for four RBI. Senior
Garrett LaBreche also led the way for the Rangers, going 3-for-5 with an RBI.
