The Parkside baseball team was back in action today for a GLIAC doubleheader at Northwood, but fell in the first two games of the series. The Rangers nearly came back to win game one in the seventh, but couldn't get the decisive hit to send the game to extras.

GAME 1 RECAP
Northwood scored the first two runs of game one, bringing across one run in each the second and third innings off of Parkside starter
Aaron Cusimano. The Timberwolves Rhett Evans homered in the second, and then drove home another run in the third inning with an RBI-single to left. The Parkside offense was quiet until the sixth inning when senior
Garrett LaBreche singled home redshirt-senior
Austin Emanuel to cut the Timberwolves lead to 2-1. Northwood added an insurance run in their half of the sixth with another RBI-single that made the score 3-1.

The Rangers rallied in the bottom of the seventh, scoring a run on an RBI-single from redshirt-freshman
Caleb Badgley. The Green & White had a chance to tie it, with Badgley at second and Emanuel at first when sophomore
Reece Homan came to the plate with two outs, but he struck out swinging to end the Ranger threat.

Cusimano went all six innings for the Rangers, allowing eleven hits and only three earned runs.

GAME 2 RECAP
Despite only outhitting the Rangers 13-7, Northwood took game two 10-1. They scored 10 unanswered runs in the first seven innings. Parkside scored their lone run in the ninth inning. Senior
Dominic Esposito doubled to left to lead off the inning, then pinch runner
Brendan Collins advanced to third on a wild pitch, and scored on another.

Redshirt-senior
Jake Macaluso started the game for Parkside, pitching 4.2 innings, yielding eight earned runs to the Timberwolves offense. Junior
Matt Helwig pitched the remaining 3.1 innings, and gave up two earned runs on five hits.

STATWORTHY
Esposito and Emanuel led the way offensively for the Rangers on Saturday. Esposito finished the two games 4-for-6 with a walk, and Emanuel went 3-for-7 with a walk and a run scored. Badgley and LaBreche were the only two Rangers to drive in runs on the day.

WHAT'S NEXT
Parkside will finish their four-game series at Northwood tomorrow with a doubleheader at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Next weekend the team will travel to Davenport to close out the regular season with a four-game series against the Panthers. Game one is scheduled for Friday, May 14 at 3 p.m.
