Parkside had a lead for a good part of the series-opener against Ashland on Friday afternoon, but back-to-back big innings by the Eagles was the difference at Historic Simmons Field. Ashland scored five runs in the sixth and five runs in the seventh inning to pull away.Â

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rangers took a 2-0 lead into the sixth inning as starter
Aaron Cusimano was cruising to open the game. In the bottom of the third inning, senior
Garrett LaBreche came in to score on a balk to make it 1-0. In the fourth inning, Parkside made it 2-0 thanks to an RBI single from
Kurt Mlachnik.
Noah Tyrrell led the inning off with a triple down the right field line.

Ashland's bats came around in the sixth and seventh innings, where they had back-to-back 5-run innings to take a 10-2 lead. The Rangers final run came in the bottom of the seventh as Tyrrell brought in
Austin Emanuel with a sacrifice fly, but Ashland's lead was too large to come back.Â

Mlachnik finished 2-for-4 with an RBI while Tyrell went 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI. Emanuel and ÂÂLaBreche went 1-for-4 with a run.

Cusimano suffered the loss, going 6.1 innings allowing nine hits and seven runs with three strikeouts.
