Women's Soccer Draws Purdue Northwest

Parkside 3, Purdue Northwest 3
After falling down 2-0 early, the Parkside women's soccer team crawled all the way back to grab a 3-2 lead in the 85th minute, but unfortunately a Pride equalizer in the 89th minute was the final goal of the game. Saturday afternoon marks the second tie of the season for the Rangers.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Purdue Northwest's Hailey Arlis gave her team an early lead in the 8th minute, and then doubled that lead just 11 minutes later. Parkside got on the board in the 25th minute with a first career goal from senior Carolyn Soukup, who was the only senior on the 2021 spring roster recognized at senior day today. That 2-1 score held going into the half.

After being outshot in the first half 9-6, the Green & White put the pressure on Purdue Northwest in the second half with 17 shots compared to just two for the Pride. The Rangers got their 2-2 equalizer from Sophomore Alexis Baker who slotted home a through ball from freshman Jaime Mohs in the 78th minute. Just seven minutes later Parkside thought they found their winner from freshman Isabelle Rivera, whose long shot flew past the Purdue Northwest keeper in the 85th minute. That wouldn't be the last goal of the contest however, as the Pride equalized with just over a minute and a half left to send the game to overtime.

The biggest chance of the overtime came in the 99th minute to the Pride's Kiana Chandler, who found herself free at the Rangers back post, but just couldn't convert.

A LOOK AT THE BOX SCORE
Thanks to a good second half, Parkside outshot the Pride 25 to 17, with eight of the Rangers' shots on goal compared to five for the visitors. Baker led the way for the Parkside offense, finishing with a goal and an assist in the contest.

WHAT'S NEXT
Saturday's contest was the final home game for the Rangers this spring. Next weekend, the team will travel to University Center, Mich. for a matchup against Saginaw Valley State on Friday, April 9 at noon. Following, they'll head over to Ashland for a noon kickoff on Sunday, April 11.
