Â
The Parkside volleyball team ended their regular season on a high-note after winning the final two sets of Saturdays' GLIAC rematch against the Davenport Panthers. Junior
Jazmine Neal and Freshman
Jessica Pappas led the Rangers with 14 kills apiece.
Â
MATCH RECAP
Davenport jumped out of the gates with a 9-4 lead in the opening set. A series of errors put the Rangers behind, which eventually led to a ten-point Panther lead that was never surrendered.
Â
There was barely anything to separate the two side in the second set until Davenport got a two-point lead, 15-13, the largest lead for either side to that point. Tied at 20, Parkside was able to score five of the final eight points in the set, including a kill from Pappas that slammed the door on the visitors.
Â
Davenport was able to control a majority of the third set thanks to a 10-6 start, and then a 6-0 run to grab a 20-13 lead. That seven-point lead proved to be too much for the Green & White, as the Panthers closed the set out 25-16.
Â
In the fourth set, Davenport kept the momentum from the third and grabbed a three-point lead to start. The Rangers fought back to tie at 4, and kept themselves within one point for a majority of the set. However, Parkside broke away at the right time, and a series of kills, including two from sophomore
Reese Rossnagel, paved the way for the team to capture the set.
Â
After storming away at the end of the fourth, the Green & White started the fifth set with a 6-1 run. The Panthers would chip away at the initial lead, but it proved to be too much, as the Rangers finished first to 15.
