HOW IT HAPPENED
It didn't take long for Northern Michigan to grab a 1-0 lead in Sunday's match. In the 6
th minute, Caroline Halonen scored the opening goal off of a Wildcat free-kick just outside the Parkside box. The hosts doubled their lead five minutes before halftime when Evelyn Flor jumped on a deflection in the Ranger box, and curled it around keeper
Izzy Guyer. Just minutes later, the Rangers responded with a long range goal from junior
Suly Perez, the first of her career. Perez received the ball shortly after a Ranger throw-in, cut inside on her right foot, and unleashed a shot that cleared the Wildcat goalkeeper.
Â
Trailing out of the halftime break 2-1, Parkside nodded it up almost immediately. This time it was Strokosch, who received the ball with her back to goal at the top of the Wildcat box, turned, and whipped a shot over the Northern Michigan keeper. That score held until the hosts found a third in the 55
th minute, and held on to the 3-2 lead for the remainder of the game.
