Baseball Falls in Wayne State Series Opener

Wayne State 7, Parkside 0
Despite out-hitting Wayne State, the Parkside baseball team was held scoreless in their series opening game in Detroit. The Rangers will look to avenge their loss with three more games this weekend, starting with a doubleheader tomorrow at noon & 3 p.m.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Solid pitching was the story of the first four innings for each team. Junior Matt Helwig started for the Rangers on the mound and allowed only one base runner, who eventually scored, in the first four innings. Unfortunately, the Warriors got to Helwig in the fifth, where they drew five walks and had a hit to bring in four runs and grab a 5-0 lead over Parkside. The Rangers offense attempted to mount a comeback, getting runners on in the sixth, seventh, and eighth, but they just couldn't get that big hit to bring some runs across the board and make it a game late.

STATWORTHY
Redshirt-senior Nicholas Eisenmenger went 2-for-3 and was hit by a pitch, while senior Dominic Esposito went 2-for-4 on the day. Senior Garrett LaBreche finished 1-for-2 with a walk. Parkside finished the game with eight hits, compared to Wayne State's seven.

Senior Alex Saunders pitched a scoreless inning in relief, and redshirt-freshman Chris Conrad pitched two innings out of the pen.

WHAT'S NEXT
As mentioned earlier, the Green & White will be back at Wayne State tomorrow at noon & 3 p.m., before wrapping up their series on Sunday at 11 a.m. Shortly after, the Rangers will travel to Romeoville, Ill. to take on Lewis on Wednesday, April 21 at 2 p.m.
