Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball Drops Both in Wayne State Doubleheader

GAME 1: Wayne State 7, Parkside 0
GAME 2: Wayne State 13, Parkside 4
The Parkside baseball team battled in a Saturday doubleheader at Wayne State, but unfortunately came away 0-2 on the day. Redshirt-senior Casey Oliver homered in the seventh inning in game two, his second time going deep this year.

GAME 1 RECAP
Both starting pitchers in game one started their days with two hitless innings. On the mound for Parkside was graduate student Austin Emanuel, and for the Warriors, Nicholas O'Dea. That trend ended in the third inning when Wayne State got a leadoff hit that would eventually score to give them a 1-0 lead. The Warriors continued that momentum in the next three innings, scoring three runs in the fourth, two runs in the fifth, and one in the sixth to take a 7-0 lead.

O'Dea pitched a complete game shutout for the Warriors. Four Rangers had hits, Emanuel, and seniors Bryce Brogni, Garrett LaBreche, and Carlos Arteaga. Emanuel went five innings for Parkside, yielding six earned runs. Junior Dusty Tomas pitched an inning in relief.

GAME 2 RECAP
Wayne State used their game one momentum and jumped out to a 5-0 lead in game two off of Parkside starting pitcher Nicholas Schouten. The Rangers responded with a two-hit, two-run third inning to bring the game back to 5-2. In that third inning, Parkside got an RBI single from senior Carlos Arteaga, and scored on a fielding error by the Warriors.

Wayne State responded in the fifth inning with three runs, and then again in the sixth when they put five more on the board to make it 13-2. In the top of the seventh, Oliver led off with a home run to left center to bring the score to 13-3. Following, Arteaga hit a two-out double, and was scored on an RBI single from LaBreche.
