Novakovich's Hat Trick Leads Rangers over Davenport

Parkside 3, Davenport 1
A hat-trick from redshirt-junior Rade Novakovich propelled the Parkside men's soccer team over GLIAC rival Davenport. It's the second hat-trick by a Ranger this year, and Novakovich has now scored four goals in his last two games.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Green & White opened the scoring in the 25th minute thanks to a counter attack. After a succession of quick Parkside passes, redshirt-freshman Matteo Quintero swung a ball in toward the back post, and Novakovich got on the end of it, volleying it past the Panther keeper.

After a Davenport red card in the opening minutes of the second half, the Rangers were able to double their lead. Off of the set piece from the Panther foul, Quintero served another ball up to the back post that Novakovich got his head on to put Parkside up 2-0. The Rangers added one more in the 64th on a curler from Novakovich that bent past the Davenport keeper. The Panthers grabbed a goal in the 85th minute, but it was too late to mount a comeback at that point.

STATWORTHY
Novakovich's three goals moves him to the top of the team leader board. Him and Edgar Heredia Victoria both have four on the year. Quintero assisted the first two Green & White goals, and redshirt-senior Jorge Garcia assisted the third. Quintero is now tied for first on the team with three assists, along with senior Max Ludwig.

Both teams put a lot of pressure on the opposing goal, as Parkside ended the game with 28 shots while the Panthers finished with 16. 15 of the 28 Ranger shots were on target, and 10 of the 16 Panther shots were as well. Junior Alexandre Durand got the start for the Rangers between the sticks, and saved a career-high nine shots.

WHAT'S NEXT
The Green & White will travel to Northern Michigan on Sunday, April 18 at 1 p.m. to take on the Wildcats. They are also hoping to make up a postponed game at Northwood, but the date is TBD.
