The New Berlin, Wis. native started all 21 games for the Rangers, and sits among the GLIAC leaders in a number of offensive categories. She finished the season second in the conference in scoring with 19.4 points per game, and third in field goal percentage with 52.9-percent. She led the Rangers in three-point percentage (41.9-percent) and free throw percentage (85.9-percent) as well.
Despite the shortened season, Nelson posted some of the best scoring performances in Parkside women's basketball history, including her career-high 35-point performance at Purdue Northwest on February 16. That 35-point mark is the third highest points scored in a single game in program history. The junior scored 20+ points ten times, and 30+ points three times. Another performance that will live on in the record books is her game at Wayne State. In the contest, she drained seven threes, the second-highest mark in program history.
"We are so proud of Alyssa," said head coach
Jen Conely. "She truly is a special player that continues to elevate her game and she definitely belongs on the First-Team All-GLIAC Team. It's been incredible to see her game evolve each year. I was impressed with her improvement from her freshman to sophomore year, but to see her elevate her game from last year to this year was insane. I don't think people truly understand how special she is as a player or understand what she did this season. She is ridiculously efficient from the floor; she finished top five in every scoring category. Not only can she score, but she also finished top 15 in assists and was 11th in assist/turnover ratio. She is the most efficient offensive player in the league and there is no one better at hitting big shots- game tying, dagger, buzzer beating shots than
Alyssa Nelson."
"Last year, we challenged Alyssa to be better defensively and we were thrilled to see her named to the All GLIAC Defensive Team," Conely continued. "We consistently matched her with our opponents' best guards and she did a tremendous job on the defensive end as well. As a 5'7 guard, she was top five in defensive rebounds (11th overall in rebounding), top five in steals, and even top 15 in blocked shots. To say that she made a significant impact on both ends for us is an understatement. We are so proud of Alyssa; it's great to see her hard work honored by the GLIAC."
