Softball Falls in Game One, Game Two Halted at PNW

Game 1: Purdue Northwest 11, Parkside 3 (5 innings)
Game 2: Parkside 4, Purdue Northwest 4 (Suspended in the Top of the 8th due to Darkness)
After the Parkside softball team fell in the first game on Tuesday afternoon at Purdue Northwest, game two was halted in the top of the eighth inning due to darkness. A plan to finish the game will be made at a later date.
 
Game 1 Recap
PNW pulled away in game one, using a 6-run fifth inning to end the game in five innings. Parkside was able to take the early lead in the top of the first inning as senior Jessica Miklos hit an RBI single to score Dani Evans, who reached on an error to open the game. PNW tied it up in the bottom half of the inning, but the Rangers went up 2-1 in the second as sophomore Jadynn Powell singled to score senior Allison Hausl. A 3-run third inning put the Pride up 5-2 and Parkside got their final run in the top of the fifth on another Pride error.
 
The Rangers finished with seven hits, as Miklos went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Evans, Powell, Hausl, junior Morgan Moore and sophomore Taylor Delgado all recorded a hit.
 
Hausl suffered the loss, pitching the first 2.0 innings while junior Kiley Akey pitched the final 2.1. The Pride had seven extra base hits, including four home runs.
 
 
Game 2 Recap
Game two went back-and-forth, as the Pride took the early 1-0 lead in the first inning but the Rangers responded with a 2-run second inning thanks to Alyssa Laxson's 2-run homer, her first of the season. The Pride tied it up with a run in the bottom of the second and took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the fourth.
 
In the top of the fifth inning, Moore hit a sacrifice fly that scored senior Samantha Newtoff and Powell followed that with an RBI double that scored sophomore Tai Gonzales to make it 4-3 Parkside.
 
 
What's Next
The Rangers welcome in Davenport for the team's home opener on Saturday, April 3 at 2/4 p.m. at Case Softball Complex. Earlier today, Parkside athletics announced the fan policy for home softball games.
