Davenport 2, Parkside 1
The Parkside women's soccer team will have to wait another week for a chance to grab their first win of the 2021 spring season. The Rangers led most of Sunday's game 1-0, but conceded two goals in the 76
th minute to Davenport's Madeleine Zayan.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
The matchup proved to be a fairly even one between the Rangers and Panthers, with the Green & White striking first. The game's opening goal came in the 29
th minute when junior
Samantha Nickell got on the end of a flicked-on header from freshman
Isabelle Rivera, and slotted it home.
Â
In the second half, the GLIAC foes battled back and forth with no real scoring chances on either side coming until the 76
th minute when Zayan stunned the Rangers with back-to-back goals to give the lead to the Panthers. Down the stretch, Parkside had a few more shots at the Davenport goal, but nothing seriously threatening the Panther goalie.
Â
STATWORTHY
Nickell's goal is the first of her career. Also involved offensively were freshman
Alexis Bolger, who had two shots on goal, and sophomore
Alexis Baker, who had one. Rivera and redshirt-sophomore
Myah Strokosch were both credited for an assist on the Ranger goal.
Â
Looking at the team stats, there was not much at all to separate the two teams. Parkside finished the game with 16 shots and five on goal, while Davenport had 13 shots and seven on goal. Sophomore
Izzy Guyer had five saves on the day, while the Davenport keeper had four.
