Women's Soccer Ties Northwood, Baker Scores

Parkside 1, Northwood 1
After 110 minutes of play at Mary D. Bradford Stadium, the Parkside women's soccer team and Northwood couldn't separate themselves Sunday afternoon. Both teams had chances down the stretch, but neither team will leave the contest with a win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rangers jumped out in front almost immediately with a 3rd minute goal from sophomore Alexis Baker. Baker got behind the defense on a through ball from freshman Alexis Bolger, who gets credited with the assist. Parkside controlled the remainder of the first half, not conceding any shots to Northwood, and shooting five more times themselves.

The tides of the game started to turn about ten minutes into the second half when Northwood starting putting more pressure on the Ranger goal. The Timberwolves finally got their equalizer on their tenth shot of the half, a 78th minute goal from Juliana Paoletti.

Sunday's contest was a physical one, highlighted by a red card issued in the 89th minute to Northwood's Nicole Magretta, who accumulated her second yellow of the game. Despite being a woman down, the Timberwolves nearly scored a winner at the buzzer, but a goal-line clearance from the Green & White defense sent the game to overtime.

The best chance of the overtime periods came in the 98th minute when a Northwood shot on goal forced a save from freshman goalkeeper Mia Guyton. Guyton's save fell back to the Timberwolf attacker, but another goal-line clearance from the Parkside defense cleared the second attempt.

HEAR FROM COACH NIKOLIC
"It was a very physical game with the conditions playing a factor," said head coach Brittany Nikolic. "I thought we started the game very strong and would have liked to have kept the consistency more through the match, but it's a step forward and an important point."

A LOOK AT THE BOX SCORE
The Rangers were outshot on the day, 15-8. The Timberwolves also had more shots on goal, 8-3. Baker, redshirt-sophomore Myah Strokosch, and freshman Isabelle Rivera had the three Parkside shots on goal.

Guyton made her Parkside debut in goal, and finished the game with four saves.
