HEAR FROM COACH REIGEL
"We knew today was going to be a battle and points were going to be at a premium," head coach
Luke Reigel said. "Unfortunately, Â we just didn't make enough plays on the offensive end to pull the game out. Have to be ready to bounce back tomorrow."
HOW IT HAPPENED
Parkside opened the game on a 10-2 run that included five points from sophomore
Solomon Oraegbu, but Ashland followed that with a 14-2 run to retake the lead. The Rangers regained the lead late in the first half on a pair of Oraegbu free throws, but a late Eagles' 3-pointer ended the half with Ashland up 27-26.
Â
In the second half was extremely tight, with neither team leading by more than five points at any point along with 10 lead changes. Down the stretch, Ashland took a 41-40 lead with 8:37 to play and Parkside never regained the lead. Redshirt-junior
Brandon Hau missed a go-ahead 3-pointer with :08-seconds left and the Rangers turned the ball over down 51-48 after a missed bonus free throw.
Â
WHO LED THE WAY
Oraegbu led all scorers with 19 points and also grabbed eight rebounds. Sophomore
Vinson Sigmon Jr. finished with nine points while both Hau and
Colin O'Rourke finished with eight.
Â
Both teams struggled from the floor, as the Rangers finished 16-of-44 (36.4%) and the Eagles went 21-of-59 (35.6%). Ashland got a huge lift from offensive rebounds, winning that battle 11-2. Parkside went -3 in turnovers and -6 in rebounding.
