#10 Michigan Tech 72, Parkside 70
The final game of the regular season for the Parkside women's basketball team came right down to the wire, much like most of their games this year. The Rangers had a few chances down the stretch, culminating in junior
Alyssa Nelson getting fouled on a three-point shot with a second left in the game, giving them a chance to tie it. Nelson sank the first, but missed the second. The third was an intentional miss from the junior, and
Hannah Plockelman was nearly able to corral it and put it in at the buzzer, but a tip from Michigan Tech stopped that effort.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
Parkside won the first quarter 16-10, and the Huskies responded with a 18-24 second quarter that tied the game up at 34 all at the break. The third quarter was split almost evenly as well, with the Huskies grabbing a three-point lead in the final seconds of the third with a pair of made free throws Baillie McGirk.
Â
A three from junior
Courtney Schoenbeck tied the game up right out of the gate of the fourth quarter, but Michigan Tech responded almost instantly with a 16-4 run that gave them a 68-56 lead with 4:34 left. Down 12 with two-and-a-half minutes left, the Rangers ripped off a 11-0 run thanks in large part to seven points from Nelson, that brought the game to 70-69. The Huskies got the ball back and made their two free throws after the Rangers intentionally fouled, and built their lead back to three. Parkside had ten seconds to get a three to send the game to overtime, and that was when Nelson was sent to the line after being knocked to the ground on her game-tying attempt. Â

HEAR FROM COACH CONELY
"Disappointing loss today, but I am very proud of our squad," head coach
Jen Conely said. "I loved our defensive intensity and how we started the game. They started to pull away in the fourth quarter and we continued to battle and had an opportunity to tie it. Our squad did a fantastic job down the stretch of getting stops and knocking down big shots, but unfortunately came up short. Looking forward to March with this group – if we can play 40 minutes on both ends, we have the ability to compete with everyone."
A LOOK AT THE BOX SCORE
Nelson led the way for the Rangers with 18, with ten coming in the fourth. Freshman
Kayla Bohr was the only other Parkside player in double-figures, finishing with ten; Her second straight game in double-figures. Jordan Ludescher led the way for the #10 Huskies with 29 points and 12 rebounds.
