Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Schoenbeck's Career-High Leads Rangers over Ferris State

Parkside 82, Ferris State 59
The Parkside women's basketball team started their postseason off on the right foot, and decisively took the No. 8-9 match up of the GLIAC Tournament. The Rangers trailed initially, 3-2, but they grabbed the lead immediately on a layup from junior Hannah Plockelman, and then didn't trail for the remainder of the game. Junior Courtney Schoenbeck's career-high 20 points led the way for Parkside.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Green & White opened the game with a 28-11 first quarter, and never looked back. Ferris State pulled the lead back to 15 with 1:30 left in the half, but that was as close as they would get, thanks to the Rangers shooting. Parkside shot 31-of-63 (49.2-percent) from the field, and made a season high 13 threes in 33 attempts.

STATWORTHY
Schoenbeck's 20 points came courtesy of a career-high six made threes. Plockelman finished the game with ten points and 11 rebounds, her third double-double of the year. Other Rangers in double-figures were junior Maddy Harrison with 13, senior Alexis Vaughn with 11, and junior Alyssa Nelson with 10. Ferris State was led by 16 points from Ellie Dykstra.

Parkside shot well from the floor, and also held the Bulldogs to just 25-of-66 (37.9-percent) from the field, and 6-of-25 (24.0-percent) from three. The Green & White won the rebounding battle 38-32 and scored more points in the paint (34-30).

WHAT'S NEXT
With the win, the team will head to Westville, Ind. for the GLIAC Quarterfinals. Awaiting results from the rest of the conference tonight, the field will be reseeded 4-8. If there are no upsets in the first round of the tournament, the Rangers will stay in the #8 spot and take on Michigan Tech on Thursday, March 4 at 10 a.m.
