Nelson's Career-High Leads Parkside Over Purdue Northwest

Parkside 72, Purdue Northwest 69
Coming off a second straight week being named the GLIAC Player of the Week, it was another career-high for junior Alyssa Nelson that led the Parkside women's basketball team over Purdue Northwest. Nelson finished with 35 points on 13-of -18 (72.2-percent) shooting from the floor. In her last six, the junior is averaging 26.6 points per game on 61.3 percent shooting.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rangers started the game on the front foot, outscoring the Pride 22-11 in the first quarter on 9-of-16 shooting from the floor. Purdue Northwest bounced back immediately in the second quarter, and won the quarter 21-8, grabbing a 32-30 lead heading into the break.

Nelson came out of the break on fire, and scored 16 points in the third to help the Green & White regain the lead with 5:25 left in the frame. Over the next 13 minutes, the Rangers outscored the Pride 28-12, and grabbed a 70-54 lead with two-and-a-half minutes left in the game.

HEAR FROM COACH CONELY
"Tough road win today against Purdue Northwest," said head coach Jen Conely. "I thought they did a great job attacking us and forced us to play zone. For the most part, I thought our zone was solid in packing the paint and finding shooters. Alyssa Nelson and Hannah Plockelman played really well on both ends of the floor. We had some foul trouble and had people step up and play solid minutes for us. Happy to get back in the win column, but we still have some details that we need to clean up before we play Lake Superior State."

STATWORTHY
Nelson's career-high comes after a previous career-high of 32 in her last game against Wayne State. Aside from Nelson, there was another career-high recorded for the Green & White. Junior Hannah Plockelman pulled down 13 boards along with her 15 points, the second highest mark on the team. Purdue Northwest was led by Savaya Brockington, who poured in 36 points.

Parkside won the rebound battle (+4), as well as the points in the paint battle (+8).
