Men's Soccer Defeats Northwood 5-1

The Rangers closed out the weekend with a match against the Northwood Timberwolves at Wood Road Field.  The Rangers took the first matchup between these two teams, and looked to get the series sweep today. The Rangers put on an offensive clinic, as they routed the Timberwolves 5-1 in regular time.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Redshirt-freshman Matteo Quintero got the Rangers on the board in the 24th minute.  Redshirt-junior Rade Novakovich was credited with the assist.  Quintero kept helping the offense, as he picked up an assist in the 28th minute on a goal scored by redshirt-freshman Bryan Torres.  Novakovich scored his first goal in the 47th minute off assists from redshirt-junior Marco Fabian and senior Marcos Calderon-Jimenez.  Senior Max Ludwig got in on the action in the 65th minute, tallying a goal with another assist going to Novakovich.  Northwood got on the board in the 69th minute with a goal from Neil Langan.  Novakovich scored his second goal of the match in the 79th minute with the assist going to redshirt-freshman Osvaldo Sanchez-Arellano.  

STATWORTHY
Novakovich now has 14 goals and eight assists on the season, totaling 36 points.  Ludwig has five goals and 11 assists this season.  Quintero and Torres both scored their second goal of the year.  Junior Alexandre Durand started in goal and earned one save on two attempts.

WHAT'S NEXT FOR THE RANGERS
Parkside will continue be on the road next weekend, with a match at Purdue Northwest on Friday, Oct. 22.  Kickoff is at 2 p.m.  The Rangers will return home on October 29 to face Upper Iowa.
