Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Cold-Shooting Leads to Rangers' Loss at GVSU

Grand Valley State 59, Parkside 42
The Parkside men's basketball team couldn't recover from a tough first half and a cold shooting game as they fell on the road to Grand Valley State, who came into this weekend receiving votes in the latest NABC Top-25 Poll. GVSU improved to 4-1 this season, while the Rangers fell to 2-3.

HEAR FROM COACH REIGEL
"We had some good looks early and didn't make them and it just snowballed on us," head coach Luke Reigel said. "They are so big and physical around the rim we knew we'd have to make some 3's and we were ice cold. That's the first time playing in that gym for most of our guys. It's too bad to because I thought we played fairly well defensively. Usually if you hold someone to 59 points you have a chance, but not tonight."

HOW IT HAPPENED
Parkside struggled offensively in the first half never led in the game while Grand Valley State jumped out to an early 11-point advantage midway through the first half. GVSU used a short 7-0 run to end the first half with a 31-16 lead. The Rangers shot 6-of-32 in the first half and 2-of-19 from beyond the arc.

In the second half, GVSU kept the game in double-digits and never let Parkside close. The Rangers were outscored in the second half, 28-26.

STATWORTHY
Redshirt-senior Tray Croft and sophomore Solomon Oraegbu each finished with eight points to lead the way for Parkside. Senior Ramar Evans had seven while junior Bryce Prochaska had six off the bench.

Parkside finished with 15 offensive rebounds, but the Lakers won the rebounding battle 37-29. GVSU finished with 22 turnovers while Parkside had 14. Parkside's cold shooting night finished off with a shooting percentage of 28.3 while the team went 5-of-32 from beyond the arc.

Parkside will battle Grand Valley State again on Saturday, Jan. 23 at 3 p.m. from GVSU Fieldhouse Arena.
