While the Parkside softball team had a lead in both games, the Rangers dropped both games on day two of the Captain D's Surf & Turf Classic. Parkside will finish out the weekend with a game against each TAMU-Kingsville and No. 7 North Georgia on Sunday.
GAME 1: Texas A&M-Kingsville 15, Parkside 6 (6 innings)
The Rangers led early on, but the Javalinas' offense was too much in this one for Parkside. After a 3-run first inning by TAMUK, Parkside responded with a huge 5-run second inning that included three hits, three errors and a pair of walks. In the inning, junior
Morgan Moore drove in seniors
Allison Hausl and
Megan Aliverti with a two-run single. Back-to-back errors helped the Rangers plate their next three runs in the inning, giving the Green & White a 5-3 lead.
The Javalinas scored four in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead and the Rangers couldn't grab the lead back. Junior
Alyssa Laxson hit her first career home run with Parkside in the top of the third inning. The Javalinas scored three in the fourth, two in the fifth and three in the sixth to earn the win in six innings.
Aliverti and Senior
Cassie Walek each went 2-for-3 with a run while Laxson went 1-for-3. Moore finished 1-for-2 with two RBI while Hausl and freshman
Dani Evans each had runs. Senior
Alyssa McClelland was charged with the loss, going 3.1 innings while Hausl finished out the final 2.0 innings.
GAME 2: No. 7 North Georgia 7, Parkside 2
A late Nighthawk offensive surge helped the host to the win over the Rangers in the final game of the day. UNG took an early 1-0 lead, but the Rangers bounced back to take a 2-1 lead after the first inning. In the first, Walek came in to score on a wild pitch and
Jessica Crull drove in Evans with an RBI single to right field, but that was the only offense Parkside could manage against the No. 7 team in the nation. UNG added three runs in the fifth and a run in the sixth.
Hausl finished 2-for-3 with a double while Walek and Crull each had hits. Sophomore
Kiley Akey tossed the complete-game, allowing eight hits, seven runs (five earned) with a strikeout.
