Rangers' Hot Shooting Leads To Eighth-Straight Win

Parkside 83, Wayne State 77
Reigning GLIAC North Player of the Week Alyssa Nelson led the Rangers with 22 points and eighth-straight win. With the win, Parkside remains at the top of the GLIAC North and moves to 10-6 overall and 7-1 in GLIAC play. The Rangers will put that conference record to the test when they host GLIAC South leaders #3 Ashland on Saturday, Jan. 18 at 1 p.m.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Green & White didn't get off to the start they had hoped, and found themselves down 12-4 in the first five minutes. The Warriors looked to take that lead into the quarter break when Nelson scored seven-straight points, including a buzzer-beating three to tie that game at 17. Neither team could separate themselves in the second, but it wasn't for a lack of shot-making. In the frame the Rangers shot 8-of-20 from the field with 5-of-10 from beyond the arc, while Wayne State shot 8-for-13 and 2-of-3 from three. Heading into the break the Warriors had a 39-38 lead.

Parkside was able to learn from their first half mistakes and started the second half on a run of their own. They opened the half with a 16-6 run that proved to be crucial as the Warriors never again got within five.

Hot shooting played a large part in Parkside's eighth-straight win, as they shot 30-of-61 (49.2-percent) and 12-of-24 (50.0-percent) from three. However, the Warriors also shot well from the field going 30-of-69 (43.5-percent) and 6-of-18 (33.3-percent) from three. The Green & White got the win despite being out-rebounded by 15 and outscored in the paint 46-36.
