Men's Soccer Secures 2-1 Comeback Win at Ashland, Remains Unbeaten in GLIAC

PARKSIDE 2, ASHLAND 1
Parkside men's soccer moved to 3-0 in the GLIAC with a 2-1 comeback win over Ashland on the road Sunday afternoon. Sophomore Jack Mittelsteadt scored the game-winner in the 63rd minute for the Rangers, who trailed 1-0 less than 10-minutes into the game.

HEAR FROM COACH ZITZKE
"We had another very tough road contest in the GLIAC today, Ashland came out really fired up and I have a lot of respect for the way they are coached; they were relentless for 90-minutes," head coach Jason Zitzke said. "They got the first goal and we were able to get it back on a beautiful diagonal through ball by Burim Huseini. We had a couple of other chances where we were able to get behind them, including Jack's that put us up 2-1."

HOW IT HAPPENED
Ashland came out strong and grabbed a 1-0 lead with a goal by Yusuke Yasamasu in the 9th minute, but the Rangers answered as redshirt-sophomore Nikola Kesich scored his first goal of the season on an assist by Huseini, who leads the team with three assists after Sunday.

After the teams went scoreless for the rest of the half, Mittelsteadt scored the game-winner in the 63rd minute after he got behind the defense and finished. Ashland did have a shot right before time expired, but redshirt-senior goalkeeper Juan Gonzalez came up with the save.

STATWORTHY
The Rangers finished with 12 shots while the Eagles had 15 as Huseini led the way with four shots, three of which came on goal. Mittelsteadt had three shots while Kesich had two. Gonzalez finished with three saves. Ashland was tagged with 24 fouls, while the Rangers had 11.

WHAT'S NEXT
The Rangers have a big weekend coming up, as last seasons GLIAC Champion Saginaw Valley State will visit Wood Road Field on Friday, Oct. 4 at 2:30 p.m. The Rangers will also battle Northwood on Sunday to finish out Pink Weekend.
