Men's Soccer Extends Win Streak to Four with Win over SVSU

Parkside 2, Saginaw Valley State 0
The Rangers are still undefeated in the GLIAC as they took down conference foe Saginaw Valley State on Friday. Parkside scored a goal in each half, with the first half goal coming from redshirt-sophomore Nikola Kesich, and the second coming from redshirt-senior Leki Prpa.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The contest was an important early season showdown, as Parkside and Saginaw Valley State were picked to finish first and second respectively in the GLIAC Coaches Preseason Poll. The Rangers got off to a quick start in the 18th minute when a loose ball fell to Kesich in the box, who calmly put it past the Cardinals keeper to make the score 1-0. Saginaw Valley State would try to mount a comeback, accruing three yellow cards in the process, but could not break through a stout Parkside defense. The Rangers added on another goal in the 84th minute when Prpa scored off a pass from redshirt-sophomore Rade Novakovich.

HEAR FROM COACH JASON ZITZKE
"It was a good win against a very good team and program. Saginaw Valley State is kind of the measuring stick of the conference, and the goal is always to kind of emulate the top teams," said head coach Jason Zitzke. "It's just one match, we can play better and there's a lot of things we can work on. But, I thought the effort was good, how we stayed together as a team, and how we fought through tough moments was good. Today we were a better team than we have been in weeks past and hopefully we can continue to build on that."

"I was really happy with how our defense played, getting our first shutout win of the season," Zitzke added. "All of those guys, Juan, Henry, Jack, Mile, Jorge, Stevi and the subs that came in for them all did a great job."

STATWORTHY
With Kesich and Prpa scoring goals for the Rangers, Novakovich was the last Parkside player to register a point when he assisted Prpa's goal. Senior goalkeeper Juan Gonzalez was the back line for a strong Parkside defense, recording six saves on the day.

WHAT'S NEXT
Parkside will look to stay undefeated in conference play as they host Northwood on Sunday, Oct. 6 at 2:30 p.m. at Wood Road Field. The Green & White will then head to Marquette, Mich. to take on Northern Michigan on Saturday, Oct. 12 at noon.
