Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Rangers Win First GLIAC Game with 2-1 Victory over Upper Iowa

Parkside 2, Upper Iowa 1
The Rangers rallied back to score two goals in the last 15 minutes, stealing the win and grabbing their first GLIAC win of the season. Late goals from redshirt-sophomore Jack Mittelsteadt and senior Burim Huesini gave Parskide the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Despite controlling the pace throughout the game, the Rangers found themselves trailing for a majority of it. A sixth-minute goal from Upper Iowa's Seth Russell gave the Peacocks the early advantage. Upper Iowa held onto that early for nearly 75 minutes when Mittelsteadt broke through for Parkside, slotted the ball past the Peacock keeper in the 79th minute. The Rangers then used that momentum to net the game-winning goal, this time from Huseini in the 84th minute.

HEAR FROM COACH ZITZKE
"I thought we had a couple pretty good looks to open the game, and then Upper Iowa came down and capitalized on their first opportunity," said head coach Jason Zitzke. "It's a frustrating way to start the game and after that it was a struggle the whole game to break them down. We finally put the ball in the back of the net and that took so much pressure off our team. Jack had a nice finish and you could feel the pressure come off, which led to Huseini's game-winner."

"We talked about shooting and finishing and worked on it all week and each of those guys did a great job," Zitzke added. "It's a really good team win, a lot of guys stepped in and contributed and that's what we needed."

STATWORTHY
Huseini led the Ranger attack with an assist, as well as scoring the game-winning goal. As mentioned earlier, Mittelsteadt scored the other goal for the green & white. Redshirt-senior Leki Prpa also had an assist on the day.
While Parkside controlled the tempo, they also put more pressure on goal. The Rangers took 26 shots on the game, with 11 on goal, while Upper Iowa took seven, with three on goal. Parkside also led Upper Iowa in corner kicks taken, 8 to 2.

WHAT'S NEXT
Parkside is back at Wood Road Field this weekend as they take on Purdue Northwest on Sunday, September 22 at 2:30 p.m. After, the Rangers will head on the road to take on Davenport on Friday, September 27 at 6 p.m.
