Game Recap: Softball |

Stellar Pitching, Game Two Walk-off Highlight Sweep of Ferris State

McClelland threw her first career complete-game shutout in game one.

It was arguably the most exciting day of the season for Parkside softball, who earned its first series sweep of 2019 after back-to-back stellar pitching performances by Alyssa McClelland and Allison Hausl against Ferris State. McClelland tossed a complete-game shutout in a 3-0 win over the Bulldogs in game one, and Cassie Walek hit a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning in a 2-1 win in game two. With the sweep, Parkside is now on a three-game winning streak and won two of the last three games on walk-offs.

HEAR FROM COACH ORTMAN
"It was a great sweep for the team today," head coach Kristin Ortman said. "They never gave up and fought hard in both games. We are excited to keep building off of these wins!"

GAME 1: Parkside 3, Ferris State 0
In game one, McClelland threw her second straight complete game, with a final line of 7.0 innings, four hits, two walks and four strikeouts. She improved to 2-1 and now has a 1.91 ERA with 29.1 innings pitched.

The game went scoreless until the bottom of the third, where Kellie Fenza came in to score after an error on the Bulldogs' first baseman, making it 1-0 Rangers. Parkside scored its other two runs in the bottom of the sixth, where Jessica Miklos singled to plate Hausl, then Miklos came in to score on another Bulldogs error.

Morgan Moore went 2-for-3, while five other Rangers tallied hits including a double from Hausl, the only extra base hit of the day for either team.

GAME 2: Parkside 2, Ferris State 1
After the Bulldogs were able to push their first run across of the day in the top of the sixth off Hausl, Parkside battled in the bottom of the seventh. After a hard-hit lineout by Moore, Hausl singled up the middle and moved up to second on another crucial FSU error. Miklos was hit by a pitch to load the bases for Fenza, who singled up the middle on the first pitch to bring Hausl home and tie it up 1-1. The next batter, Walek, drilled the ball over the center fielders head to score Aliverti and win the game for Parkside.

Hausl, who got out of a bases loaded no out jam in the top of the first, finished the complete-game with five hits, four walks and four strikeouts. It was Hausl's third complete game of the season, en route to earning her first win of the year with the season-high four strikeouts.

In game two, Jessica Crull finished 2-for-3 while Fenza and Walek each went 1-for-4 with the game-tying and game-winning RBI, respectively. Hausl also went 1-for-2 with a run.
