Softball Homers Three Times, Drop Both at PNW

Softball traveled to Purdue Northwest on Saturday to take on the Pride in a doubleheader. The Rangers homered three times on the day but dropped both games. Game one featured hot bats for both teams, ending with a 12-7 score, while game two ended 3-2 with a nice game from Allison Hausl.

GAME 1: Purdue Northwest 12, Parkside 7

Purdue Northwest came out hot, using 11 hits in the first three innings to score 10 runs. The answer for the Rangers came in the top of the fourth inning when Morgan Moore smacked a two-run homer to left to make the score 10-2. The Pride added two more runs on a pair of doubles in the bottom of the fourth, stretching their lead back to 10. Parkside battled back in the top of the fifth with another two-run homer, this time from Kellie Fenza. Morgan Sikon kept the rally going as a single through the left side brought in Adrien Hall to bring the score to 12-5. The Rangers rallied in the seventh, scoring two more runs, but ultimately fell short.

Alyssa McClelland started the game for Parkside, suffering the loss after pitching an inning. Kiley Akey came in relief for the Rangers, pitching the final five innings. Moore led the Rangers on offense going 2-for-4 with a double and a home run, driving in three. Hall went 2-for-3 and scored two runs in the game as well.

GAME 2: Purdue Northwest 3, Parkside 2

Hausl squared off against Purdue Northwest's Courtney Blackwell in game two, with both pitchers finding success. Parkside scored the first run of the game in the top of the third inning when Cassie Walek doubled to bring in Jessica Miklos to go ahead 1-0. The Rangers added on a run in the top of the sixth inning when Megan Aliverti smoked a home run to bring the score to 2-0. The Pride responded in the bottom of the frame with a home run of their own, a game-tying two-run shot. Neither team scored in the seventh, sending the game to extra-innings with a score of 2-2. It didn't take long for the Pride in extras, as they hit a walk-off single to take game two.

Hausl pitched 7.1 innings for Parkside, giving up three runs on nine hits, while striking out four. Aliverti led the Rangers on offensive going 2-for-4 with a solo home run.
