Parkside softball made the trip south to battle a few former GLVC foes, but the Rangers opened the weekend with a pair of losses to McKendree. The Bearcats won game on 7-6 in comeback fashion before winning game two 14-3.
GAME 1: McKendree 7, Parkside 6
After the Rangers took a 6-2 lead, McKendree used a four-run sixth inning to tie it up 6-6 and then scored another in the bottom of the fifth to take the lead.
Megan Aliverti finished 1-for-3 with three RBI.
How it Happened
After McKendree took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth, the Rangers responded with a two-run inning of their own in the top of the third thanks to an Aliverti two-run single that scored
Kellie Fenza and
Allison Hausl.
Parkside made it a 6-2 lead in the top of the fourth thanks to three straight key at bats. Fenza brought in
Kate Czoschke on a fielder's choice and then
Jessica Miklos scored on a passed ball. Aliverti brought in Fenza and Hauls with an RBI single to make it 6-2, but McKendree scored the final five runs of the game to come away with the win.
GAME 2: McKendree 14, Parkside 3
McKendree took a 7-0 lead and then used a seven-run fourth inning to pull away. The Rangers scored all three runs in the top of the fourth.
How it Happened
The Bearcats scored a run in the bottom of the second and added six in the bottom of the third. Parkside answered with three runs in the fourth, making it 7-3. In the inning, Czoschke was hit by a pitch to bring a run in, followed by a Hausl RBI single and a Fenza RBI single. McKendree added seven runs in the bottom of the fourth to pull away.
Statworthy, Both Games
Fenza went 2-for-6 with two runs, a double and two RBI in both games combined while
Megan Aliverti went 1-for-3 with three RBI in the first game. Hausl finished the day 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.
What's Next
Parkside will battle Maryville on Sunday, March 10 at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. on the road. The Rangers first home game is scheduled for March 23. Â
