Purdue Northwest managed to take both games from the Parkside baseball team on Saturday, first using a one-hitter to win 6-0 in the opener and then winning 5-4 on an extra-inning walk with the bases loaded in the nightcap.
GAME 1: Purdue Northwest 6, Parkside 0
The Pride shut down the Rangers for the second straight game, holding the Rangers' offense to just one hit, which was a double by
Justin Bennett in the top of the seventh to break up the no-hitter.
Casey Oliver drew a pair of walks in the game as well, but PNW scored in four of its six innings to keep the pressure on the Rangers all game long.
GAME 2: Purdue Northwest 5, Parkside 4
In game two, Parkside was out to a 3-0 lead after their half of the third inning, but PNW used a three-run sixth inning to tie it up at 4-4 and then went on to win in the bottom of the eighth inning on a bases loaded walk.
Parkside took the early 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning thanks to a
Hunter Weddel RBI single, which scored
Noah Tyrrell after his one-out triple. In the top of the third inning, the Rangers saw back-to-back RBI groundouts by
Paul Weise and
Ricky West to make it a 3-0 Parkside lead.
After the Pride scored one in the bottom of the third, the game went 2.0 scoreless innings until the Rangers added another run in the top of the sixth thanks to a
Kurt Mlachnik RBI single that scored Tyrrell. PNW scored three in the sixth and the game-winner in the bottom of the eighth to take both games on Saturday.
Casey Oliver went 2-for-4 with a double while Mlachnik went 2-for-3 and Tyrrell had a triple and two runs.
