BELLARMINE 11, PARKSIDE 1
Parkside baseball was in it until the bottom of the seventh inning, where Bellarmine had a nine-run inning to take an 11-1 advantage. Parkside, who battled back to add three runs in the ninth, has three more games to finish out the weekend in Nashville, Tenn.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
Bellarmine got on the scoreboard early with a run in the bottom of the first and added another in the bottom of the fourth to make it 2-0.
Â
Parkside battled back, scoring a run in the top of the sixth inning thanks to a Domenic Esposito RBI single that plated
Casey Oliver, who led the inning off with a double.
Â
In Bellarmine's big nine-run inning, they had five hits and were helped by a pair of Rangers' errors.
Â
Parkside added three runs in the top of the ninth inning thanks to some timely hitting. After
Shawn Rigsby led off with a walk and stole second, Esposito drew a walk and Weddel hit an RBI double to plate Rigsby and make it 11-2. Later in the inning,
Ricky West hit a sacrifice fly to score Esposito and Justin Bennet also had a sacrifice fly to score Weddel, but the Bellarmine lead was too much to overcome.
Â
STATWORTHY
Oliver finished 2-for-5 with two doubles and a run while five other Rangers finished with hits. Weddel went 1-for-4 with a double, a run and an RBI while Esposito and Bennett each drove in a run.
