Nicholas Rana each pick up their first wins of the year as the team improved to 2-7.
GAME 1: Parkside 7, #13 Southern Indiana 4
The Rangers picked up their first win of the season in great fashion to open Saturday, taking down the No. 13 Screaming Eagles behind a late comeback that featured six unanswered runs.
How it Happened
Parkside took the early lead with a run in the bottom of the second as
Ricky West drove in
Shawn Rigsby with an RBI single.
USI came back to take the lead in the fourth inning, using a three-run triple to go up 3-1 and then adding another run in the sixth to take a 4-1 lead.
The Rangers answered in the sixth inning, coming back to take a 5-4 lead. In the sixth,
Matt Tegtmeier led the inning off with a single and came in to score when Nick Eisenmenger drew a bases loaded walk. Domenic Esposito made it 4-3 USI with a sacrifice fly and Rigsby tied it up with an RBI single to plate
Casey Oliver. Parkside took the lead back on a
Hunter Weddel RBI single to center field, making it 5-4 Parkside.
The Rangers added a pair of runs in the seventh, Eisenmenger drove in
Justin Bennett on a fielder's choice to make it 6-4 and Esposito drove in
Kurt Mlachnik to make it 7-4.
Dusty Tomas and
Aaron Cusimano came in clutch for the Rangers out of the bullpen, as they finished the final 3.0 innings scoreless with four strikeouts combined.
Statworthy
Peyton Schneider picked up his first career win for the Rangers, going 6.0 innings allowing seven hits and three earned runs with six strikeouts.
The Rangers finished with seven hits by seven different players. Eisenmenger and Esposito each had two RBI's while Bennett went 1-for-4 with a double and a run.
GAME 2: Parkside 6, Trevecca Nazarene 5
The Rangers had two big innings and held off a late Trojan comeback.
Nicholas Rana went 7.0 innings with eight strikeouts to lead the Rangers to their second win of the day.
How it Happened
The Rangers took a 3-0 lead in the top of the second inning thanks to a
Justin Bennett two-run single and a
Niko Diaz RBI single. TNU added a run in the bottom of the second to make it 3-1.
Parkside added on to the lead in the top of the fourth with three more runs, making it 6-1 Rangers. In the inning, Parkside had three straight doubles to open the inning by Weddel,
Paul Weise and West. Later in the inning,
Casey Oliver had an RBI single to make it 6-1.
The Rangers were held scoreless the rest of the way, but the pitching held on to the lead. The Trojans added runs in the fifth, sixth, seventh and ninth to make it very interesting. TNU had the tying run on third base in the ninth inning.
Statworthy
Diaz went 3-for-5 with an RBI in the leadoff spot while Weddel finished 2-for-2 with two runs and a double. Weise and West each went 1-for-3 with a double, an RBI and two runs.
Rana's line finished 7.0 innings, eight hits, four runs and eight strikeouts while
Matt Helwig pitched the final 2.0 innings.
