The Parkside softball team traveled south for the second straight weekend, this time just to the Rosemont Dome. The Rangers were defeated in both games however, losing to Lindenwood 9-5 to open the day and falling to Lewis 5-2 to end the day.
GAME 1: Lindenwood 9, Parkside 5
Lindenwood opened up with a 7-0 lead in the first inning and held on to the lead throughout. Parkside outhit the Lions 12-8, but left runners on base in key situations.
How it Happened
In the first inning, the Lions got a grand slam in the middle of the seven run inning, but the Rangers in a big deficit to start the day. Parkside responded, scoring five unanswered runs to make it a 7-5 game. In the third,
Cassie Walek drove in
Jessica Miklos to make it 7-1. Parkside pushed three runs across in the fourth inning thanks to a
Morgan Moore RBI double, a
Samantha Newtoff RBI double and an
Allison Hausl RBI triple, making it 7-4.
In the fifth inning,
Megan Aliverti's RBI single that scored Walek made it 7-5, but the Rangers left the bases loaded with no outs in the inning. Lindenwood scored two runs in the fifth inning to push it to a 9-5, and the Rangers couldn't answer back.
A Look at the Box Score
Parkside outhit Lindenwood 12-8, led by multi-hit games from Walek, Sikon, Moore and Hausl. Walek, Moore and Newtoff all had a double while Hausl had her first triple of the season.
Kiley Akey suffered the loss, with
Alyssa Hrncar pitching the final 5.1 innings in relief and allowing just one earned run on three hits.
GAME 2: Lewis 5, Parkside 2
One bad inning was the difference maker in this one, as Lewis scored all five runs in the bottom of the third inning. Parkside made it interesting in the end, scoring two in the top of the fifth and bringing the tying run to the plate in the seventh.
How it Happened
The Flyers got to starter
Allison Hausl in the third inning, leading off with a double and getting help from a Rangers' error in the inning that scored the first run. The big hit in the inning came on a one-out grand slam, making it 5-0 Lewis.
In the top of the fifth,
Kellie Fenza led off with a triple down the right field line and came in to score on
Cassie Walek's RBI single. Walek stole second, moved up to third on wild pitch and scored on a
Morgan Sikon RBI groundout, making it 5-2 Lewis. The Rangers had two baserunners in the sixth inning as well as the seventh inning, but couldn't push anymore runs across.
Statworthy
Fenza had her sixth multi-hit game of the season, going 2-for-4 with a triple and a run. Walek finished 1-for-4 with a run and an RBI and Sikon and
Samantha Newtoff each had doubles. Hausl suffered the loss, going all 6.0 innings allowing five runs (four earned) on eight hits and a walk with three strikeouts.
What's Next
The Rangers will play three more games at the Rosemont Dome, with two coming tomorrow. First Parkside will battle William Jewell at 9 a.m. followed by No. 15 Winona State at 3:30 p.m.
