Softball Stumbles on Day Two in Arkansas, Fenza Stays Hot

Day two of Parkside softball's Arkansas trip ended with a pair of losses, first a 6-0 defeat to Northwest Missouri State followed by a 13-9 loss to Nebraska-Kearney. Kellie Fenza stayed hot on Sunday, going 3-for-6 with a triple, three runs and four stolen bases while extending her hitting streak to 16 games. The Rangers will finish out their trip to Arkansas with a doubleheader against Central Missouri on Monday at 9 a.m.

GAME 1: Northwest Missouri State 6, Parkside 0
The Rangers couldn't get the offense going against the Bearcats, as they were held to four hits. The Bearcats scored three runs in the first and added on with a run in each the second, third and fourth innings. Fenza went 2-for-4 while Cassie Walek and Morgan Sikon each contributed hits. Alyssa Hrncar suffered the loss and Kiley Akey came in relief to pitch the final 4.2 innings.

GAME 2: Nebraska-Kearney 13, Parkside 9
Parkside started out hot against the Lopers, taking an 8-0 advantage before UNK got on the scoreboard, but the Lopers scored 12 runs combined in the fifth and sixth innings for the comeback win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rangers offense started out very well, with the first four batters reaching base. Megan Aliverti started the scoring off with an RBI single to plate Fenza and Sikon ripped a two-run double to right center that scored Walek and Aliverti, making it 3-0 in the first inning.

The Rangers added on the lead in the second, this time scoring four runs to push the lead to 7-0. In the inning, Sikon again came through with a two-run single and Morgan Moore drew a bases loaded walk to score Aliverti, followed by a sacrifice fly by Lydia Byrd.

Aliverti drove in Fenza in the bottom of the third to make it 8-0, but UNK came back, scoring a run in the fourth, six runs in the fifth inning and six runs in the sixth inning. Parkside had three errors in the sixth inning and all six runs were unearned.

STATWORTHY
Sikon went 3-for-5 with a double and four RBI as the cleanup hitter and Fenza went 1-for-2 with three runs and three stolen bases as the leadoff batter. Walek finished with two runs and Aliverti went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI along with a pair of runs.

Allison Hausl started the game, going 4.2 innings and allowing seven runs, just one of them earned, on four hits and one walk. Kate Czoschke suffered the loss and Akey pitched the final 2.0 innings in relief.
