Box Score BOX SCORE

Truman State 82, Parkside 71

The Rangers opening game of the 2019-20 season came down to a single quarter, as the teams were tied at 54 after three. Unfortunately for Parkside, that final quarter didn't go its way as they were outscored 28-17 and dropped their opener to Truman State.

FIRST HALF
The first quarter was back-and-forth as the Rangers shot 6-for-15 from the field and 3-for-4 from beyond the arc. Parkside got a spark off the bench courtesy of sophomore Courtney Schoenbeck who scored six point in the quarter with a pair of threes. In the second quarter, the Rangers rattled off an 11-5 run to grab a 29-25 lead with a little over four minutes in the half. However, Truman State closed the half strong and outscored Parkside 13-6 in the final four minutes of the half to take a 38-36 lead into the break.

SECOND HALF
The Bulldogs extended their lead out of the halftime break to six and looked to pull away until a timely 8-2 Parkside run brought the game level. Parkside sophomore Alyssa Nelson was a large factor in the run, as she had six of the eight points. The teams traded baskets for the remainder of the quarter, and went into the final frame tied at 54. The fourth quarter didn't go as planned for Parkside, and nine points in the quarter from senior Taylor Stephen were not enough to turn the tide, as they were outscored 28-17 in the quarter, ultimately falling 82-71.

HEAR FROM COACH CONELY
"Tough loss against a good Truman State program," said head coach Jen Conely. "We had some really good moments but didn't play consistently, especially on the defensive end. I loved our third quarter-thought we got out and pressured them and created turnovers that resulted in easy points in transition. Fourth quarter was different, we let their shooters get hot and lost out on the hustle plays. We will learn from it and make sure we will be prepared for Quincy tomorrow."

STATWORHTY
Leading the way for the Rangers was Stephen, who registered a career-high 19 points, also adding six rebounds and three assists. Second leading scorer was redshirt sophomore Claire Jakaitis, who had 11 points. Another Ranger who had a solid day was Nelson, who had 10 points to go with seven rebounds.

As a team, the Rangers shot 39.7-percent compared to Truman State's 52.4-percent. Parkside was also outrebounded 45-32, but did win the turnover battle by three.

WHAT'S NEXT
The Rangers will look to leave the Midwest Regional Crossover Tournament on a high-note as they take on Quincy tomorrow at 3 p.m. Following, Parkside will stay on the road to take on Concordia St. Paul on Friday, Nov. 15 at 8 p.m.
