Volleyball Earns Tough Road Win at Davenport

The Parkside volleyball team earned a big-time road victory at Davenport Saturday night in a very even contest. The Rangers took the home Panthers to five sets, and ended up winning 3-2 (19-25, 25-23, 25-17, 19-25, 16-14). The Rangers, who defeated Grand Valley State last night 3-0, fell to both GVSU and Davenport 3-0 earlier in the season.

HEAR FROM COACH BAREA
"Another great team match and win tonight!" second year head coach Leigh Barea said. "They did a great job battling and making adjustments. I'm especially proud of how they responded to errors and never let them completely get them down. They are having a blast playing together and it really shows in our results."

HOW IT HAPPENED
In the first set, Davenport clung to a small lead the entire set and ended up winning 25-19, taking the 1-0 lead. In the second, the teams went back-and-forth all the way through. The set was tied at 23-23 and the Rangers used a kill by Rachel Hedman to take the lead and the set-winning kill from Jazmine Neal. In the third, Parkside finished out strong winning eight of the final 10 points to grab the 2-1 lead in the match. It went to the fourth set, where this time Davenport was the team that ended strong, winning seven of the final eight points to tie the match up 2-2. The fifth was tight as well, with the teams tied at 14-14, Parkside won the match thanks to a Reese Rossnagel kill and a Panthers' attack error.

STATWORTHY
Hedman and Neal each had 15 kills to lead the way for the Rangers while Lexi Packard had seven. Senior Carlee Behnke had a team-high eight blocks while Packard and Neal each had 6.0. Freshman Alysha Brickl had 31 assists and senior Ann Leo had 26 digs.
