Volleyball Sweeps GVSU on the Road Friday Night

PARKSIDE 3, GRAND VALLEY STATE 0
The Parkside volleyball team went on the road and crushed Grand Valley State 3-0 (25-16, 25-23, 25-21)­ on Friday night to open the weekend. GVSU is top-5 in the GLIAC standings as all teams battle for position in the tournament.

"I'm so proud of our team tonight," second year head coach Leigh Barea. "They played motivated, focused, and together the entire match. Ann's intensity on defense from the beginning really set the tone for the team in all areas of the game. Overall, it was a great team win and mentality!"
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
In the first set, Parkside jumped out to an 8-3 lead early on and cruised to an easy 25-16 win to take a 1-0 lead. The second set was back-and-forth until the end, with GVSU taking a 22-20 advantage before Parkside went on a 4-0 run and eventually won 25-23 to go up 2-0 on the road. In the third, the Rangers trailed 6-1 early on and came back to take a 16-11 lead after a 7-0 run. The Lakers made it close in the end, but the Rangers finished off winning three of the final four points for the sweep.
 
STATWORTHY
Junior Rachel Hedman finished with a team-high 11 kills while freshman Reese Rossnagel had nine kills and the duo of sophomore Jazmine Neal and freshman Lexi Packard had six. Senior Carlee Behnke had six blocks, freshman Alysha Brickl had a game-high 29 assists and senior Ann Leo had a game-high 25 digs.
 
 
WHAT'S NEXT
The Rangers will finish out the weekend on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 6 p.m. with a night game against Davenport. The final regular match for Parkside will take place on Saturday, Nov. 16 at 2 p.m. at Purdue Northwest.
