Women's Soccer Falls to Ashland on Make-A-Wish Day

On Make-A-Wish Day at Wood Road Field, Ashland came into town and scored a goal in both halves against the Rangers, who were troubled with goalie issues throughout the match. Ashland was receiving votes in the latest United Soccer Coaches Poll.
 
GOALIE SITUATION
Senior goalkeeper Adrianna Bratel, who broke the Parkside all-time saves record in the game on Friday, was out due to injury. Freshman Izzy Guyer started the game, but had to leave after a collision where Guyer walked away with a sizable cut on her head. Senior Lara Ferrari entered for Guyer, but also had to leave the game after a collision. Senior Maycee Kroening, who started the game as a forward, finished in goal for Parkside.
 
GAME RECAP
Ashland got on the scoreboard in the 21st minute thanks to Juliana Markovic's free kick, that just barely got past Ferrari. The Eagles finished their second goal in the 54th minute on Markovic's second goal of the day. Parkside had some chances throughout the match, as the Rangers outshot the Eagles 20-17 and 10 shots on goal.
 
STATWORTHY
Junior Delaney Benich led the team with five shots, while the trio of Viktoria Silva, Alexis Baker and Jazmin Castanon all had four shots. Silva led the team with three shots on goal, while Baker, Castanon and Siegel all had two.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
Parkside has to hit the road for five straight matches, beginning with No. 3 ranked Grand Valley State on Friday, Oct. 11 at 6 p.m. The Rangers will return home on Friday, Nov. 1 for an 11 a.m. match against Michigan Tech.
