Parkside Moves to Top of GLIAC with Win over Northern Michigan

Parkside 4, Northern Michigan 2
Four different Rangers got on the scoreboard on Saturday, as Parkside moves to 5-1 in the GLIAC. With the win, the Rangers move to a tie for first place in the conference. It won't take long for someone to claim the top spot as their own, as they will face off against the other half of the tie, the Davenport Panthers on Monday, Oct. 14.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Parkside got on the board early courtesy of junior Tode Atlija. Atlija got on the end of a pass from redshirt-sophomore Rade Novakovich, and gave the Rangers the 1-0 lead in the 13th minute. Northern Michigan didn't take long to respond, as they equalized in the 26th minute. The third goal of the half came from Parkside redshirt-sophomore Jack Mittelsteadt in the 35th minute, giving the Rangers a 2-1 lead before the half.

Parkside extended its lead in the second half, as redshirt-senior Leki Prpa scored his second goal of the season in the 58th minute. The Wildcats wouldn't go down without a fight, and brought the score to 3-2 in the 76th. Northern Michigan couldn't mount the comeback and the Rangers again extended their lead to two when Novakovich punched home Parkside's fourth goal of the day, giving them the 4-2 win.

STATWORTHY
Novakovich led the Rangers on offense with a goal and an assist. Prpa, Atlija, and Mittelsteadt also got on the board for Parkside. Atlija and Mittelsteadt's goals mark each of their fourth goal of the season, leading the team. Senior Burim Huseini and redshirt-sophomore Nikola Kesich also added an assist each.

The team stats were nearly identical, as both teams registered 11 shots, with Parkside having eight on goal to Northern Michigan's six. Parkside committed seven fouls compared to the Wildcats eight and each team also had four saves in the game.

WHAT'S NEXT
Parkside will continue its road-trip looking to grab the top GLIAC spot as they take on Davenport on Monday, Oct. 14 at 3 p.m. After, the Rangers will head to Purdue Northwest to take on the Pride on Friday, Oct. 18 at 2:30 p.m.
