PARKSIDE 96, PURDUE NORTHWEST 79
A big second half from the Rangers helped them get back above .500 as senior
Adam Bonk lead the team with 23 points, including 20 coming in the second half alone. Along with the women's team, the Rangers wore yellow shoelaces for Lace Up 4 Pediatric Cancer, in partnership with Go4theGoal. Both coaching staffs are sporting running shoes to help bring awareness for Coaches vs. Cancer.
HEAR FROM COACH REIGEL
"They had a very good game plan, and their strengths kind of match up with our weaknesses," head coach
Luke Reigel said. "We got off to a bad start and you have to give them credit, but in the second half we actually guarded somebody. Our guards kept someone in front of them, and that made all the difference in the second half."
"Adam had actually had been struggling shooting this week." Reigel added. "He shot 1-5 in the first half and they were all good looks. Once he made the first one in the second half, Chip does such a great job of finding someone when they are hot."
FIRST HALF
The teams went back-and-forth to start the first half until a basket at 16:26 sparked a 7-0 run for the Pride, which ended with a layup by redshirt-freshman
Brandon Hau to make the score 13-9. Purdue Northwest again went on a run and extended the lead to 21-11 with 13:14 left in the half. Despite being outrebounded in the half 20-12, the Rangers stayed persistent and chipped away at the lead. They found themselves trailing at the break, 41-37.
SECOND HALF
Parkside wasted no time in the second half as Bonk hit three consecutive 3-pointers in the first two minutes, all assisted by redshirt-senior Chip Flanigan. With the score 46-45, the Rangers would use that momentum to go on a 13-0 run, as they held the Pride scoreless for five minutes. The Rangers never looked back, shooting 72-percent from the field in the second half, on their way to their ninth victory of the season. Parkside led by as many as 20 points in the second half, after trailing by four at the break.
STATWORTHY
Parkside was led by Bonk, who scored 23 points on 7-of-11 shooting from behind the arc. Redshirt-freshman
Brandon Trimble added 19 points, while Flanigan filled the box score, finishing with eight points, 11 assists, and six rebounds.
