Volleyball Downs Purdue Northwest in Comeback Fashion

Parkside 3, Purdue Northwest 1

FROM COACH BAREA
"I am very proud of every single person on the team tonight after that win," head coach Leigh Barea said. "After the first set, they made adjustments and continued to battle as the match went on. Our defense and blocking stepped up huge, which gave us confidence on offense. I am really excited to build on what we did tonight as a team as we prepare for two more GLIAC matches this weekend."

HOW THE RANGERS WON
Parkside, who beat Purdue Northwest 3-2 earlier this season at the Parkside Hampton Inn Invitational, lost the first set 25-17, but struck fire and won the next three 25-23, 25-19, 27-25 to earn the team's first GLIAC win, and first true road win of the season. In the fourth and final set, the Rangers led 24-20, and held off the Pride's late comeback to earn the victory.

WHO LED THE WAY
Lexie Calloway led the way in kills with 16, while also finishing second on the team with 10 digs. Sophomore Rachel Hedman went for 14 kills while Elizabeth Mavis went off for 9.0 blocks. Freshman Jazmine Neal has 6.0 blocks, while Ann Leo led the team with 20 digs and Katie Adams had a team-high 22 assists.

TEAM STATS
Parkside had a huge advantage in blocks led by Mavis, as the Green & White finished with 15.0 blocks while the Pride had 7.0. Parkside also led in kills 51-48, hitting percentage (.197-.170) and assists (49-45). After having just 1.0 blocks in the first set loss, the Rangers went 4.0, 5.0, 5.0 in blocks to finish it out.

STAYING ON THE ROAD
It's been a long time away from home for Parkside, and that will stay the same this weekend. The Rangers will face Davenport on the road Friday night at 6 p.m. and Grand Valley State on Saturday at 3 p.m. The Rangers will return home next weekend however, facing Wayne State on Friday, Sept. 21 at 7 p.m. and Ashland on Saturday, Sept. 22 at 2 p.m.
