Baseball Bounces Back to Win Game Two; Rana Tosses Shutout

SOMERS, Wis. – The Parkside baseball team bounced back from a wild game one loss (27-8) to win game two (4-0) in completely different styles on Saturday afternoon against Indianapolis at Red Oberbruner Field. Before game one, the Rangers had special guest and teammate Leo Montemurro throw out the first pitch.

Game one featured 38 hits, eight errors and 35 runs. UIndy had six innings scoring three or more runs including a pair of six-run innings. The Rangers did hold a lead early following a four-run second inning that included runs driven in by Lovell Chandler, Cole Vento, Griffin Klein and Troy Bittenbender, but the lead didn't last long after Indy's offense got hot in the middle innings.

Chandler had a big game one, going 3-for-4 while Nick Sramek went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles.

Game two was a much more conventional baseball game, with Nicholas Rana tossing a complete-game shutout allowing just four hits with four strikeouts.

All the scoring came late after 3.5 shutout innings. The Rangers broke through with a run in the bottom of the fourth thanks to a wild pitch by Domenic Hammudeh to make it 1-0. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Bittenbender drove in Chandler with an RBI single and Max Widmar followed that with a big two-run single up the middle to make it 4-0. Rana took care of the rest on the mound, pitching out of leadoff errors in both the fifth and seventh innings.

The Rangers welcome back Indy on Sunday, April 29 at noon and 3 p.m. Senior Day will take place between games on Sunday. All students in attendance will receive free hot dogs, chips and a drink.
