Women's Basketball Comes up Short at Lewis

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis's post players proved to be too much Saturday afternoon, as the UW-Parkside women's basketball team fell short on the road to the Flyers 75-63 despite a nice first half.

The Flyers' Jessica Kelliher finished the game with 37 points on 17-of-22 shooting and 12 rebounds while Rachel Hinders had 13 points and eight rebounds; neither attempted a 3-pointer in the game.
The Rangers put themselves in an early hole, going down 8-0 4:00 into the game. The Rangers battled back, tying the game at 15-15 and taking an 18-17 lead at the end of the first quarter after a Maycee Kroening triple with 1:10 remaining. Parkside jumped out to a 6-point lead with 5:12 in the half after back-to-back 3-pointers from Asiah Lawson and Hayley Maystead, the team's largest lead of the game. Lawson connected on another one from downtown with :55 left to give the Rangers a 4-point lead at the half.

The second half was all Flyers however, as the home team won the third quarter by a score of 25-11, using a 9-0 run late in the quarter. The Rangers dropped the deficit down to five points with 2:14 to play in the game after Ali Bettencourt hit a trey, but the Flyers ended the game on an 8-1 run to preserve the win.

Lawson led the way for the Rangers tallying 17 points and a trio of 3-pointers off the bench while Alisha Murphy finished with 12 points and five rebounds. Bettencourt, Maystead and Georgie Eishold all had eight points.

Parkside had two more games on the road coming up, as the team heads to Truman State on Thursday, Feb. 15.
