Men's Soccers Championship Dreams Taken Away in Overtime Loss

Krecak, Ludwig Score for Rangers

Ashland 3, Parkside 2 (OT)

The Rangers were up early in the first half with two goals from junior Stevi Krecak and sophomore Max Ludwig. Parkside was able to hold Ashland off until the end of the first half, when the Eagles added a goal to the scoreboard. In the 85th minute, the Eagles tied the game, pushing the semifinal match into overtime. In the 96th minute, Ashland secured their spot in the championship match on Sunday, ending the Rangers 2018 postseason run.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Stevi Krecak headed the ball into the back of the net off an assist from his brother, redshirt-senior Petar Krecak in the 10th minute of the first half. Six minutes later, Ludwig was able to control a ball that had been deflected out of the box and volley it into the goal, putting the Rangers up 2-0. To end the first half, the Eagles finished an opportunity, making the score heading into the next 45 minutes 2-1.

Ashland scored an equalizer goal at the 85th minute, which sent the game into overtime. In the 96th minute, a slotted ball was finished in the Rangers defensive third, sending the Eagles to the championship match against Northwood on Sunday, Nov. 4.

STATWORTHY

Parkside took 19 shots throughout the game, with four on frame. Ludwig, redshirt-junior Leki Prpa and junior Burim Huseini led the Rangers with four shots a piece. Redshirt-senior Evan Garcia followed behind with two shots.  Ashland earned 10 corner kicks on the match, while the Rangers only had five. Both teams had nine fouls on the game, including two yellow cards for Parkside and one for Ashland.

2018 SEASON

This concludes the Rangers' 2018 season. Parkside ended with a record of 9-7-1 for their first year in the GLIAC with five players receiving All-GLIAC awards. Those awards are as follows:

Brandon Henderson: First Team All-GLIAC Midfielder
Reyes Perez: Second Team All-GLIAC Midfielder
Henry Bruer: Second Team All-Conference Defender
Juan Gonzalez: Honorable Mention Goalkeeper
