ROLLA, Mo. – Parkside women's basketball couldn't recover from a tough first quarter and dropped a GLVC game at Missouri S&T Saturday afternoon 79-63.

The Miners held Parkside scoreless through the first 3:30 and jumped out to a 9-0 lead early, turning into a 24-7 lead at the end of the first quarter. Missouri S&T ended the first quarter on an 11-0 run to help to the big lead at the end of one. The Miners outscored the Rangers 16-12 in the second quarter, but the Rangers stayed tough in the second half, outscoring their opponent 14-13 behind a balanced scoring attack. In the fourth quarter, both team's offenses caught fire, as Parkside outscored the Miners 30-26 that included 17 points from
Carolina Rahkonen.
Parkside had a cold shooting night, going 22-for-72 to shoot 30-percent from the floor and a 15-percent mark from the 3-point line. Although the Rangers were outrebounded 43-32, the Green & White finished with 15 offensive boards to the Miners eight. Rahkonen's big fourth quarter helped her to tie a career-high with 21 points on 8-of-13 shooting while
Ali Bettencourt went for 15 and
Lucija Bilic added 10.
The Rangers will take the week off, but return to action with three straight home games at DeSimone starting against Bellarmine on Saturday, Jan. 13 at 1 p.m.
